What To Expect

Riding with Roots: What to Expect

At Roots Riding Stable, every ride is designed to be safe, joyful, and unforgettable. Before you saddle up and explore the beauty of Saint Lucia with us, here’s everything you need to know to make the most of your experience.

Caring for Our Horses: Why We Have a Weight Limit

Our horses are strong, but they’re also sensitive and deserve gentle care. To keep both you and our horses safe and comfortable, we have a maximum rider weight of 220 lbs (100 kg). This ensures your ride is smooth and enjoyable while protecting our beloved horses — because their wellbeing always comes first.

Understanding Your Riding Level

We’ll match you with the perfect horse and trail for your experience. Here’s a quick guide:

  • Beginner: Less than 10 rides; familiar with basic riding cues.

  • Novice: 10–50 rides; confident mounting/dismounting, balanced at trot, learning to canter.

  • Intermediate: 50+ rides; confident at trot and canter, comfortable with spirited horses.

  • Advanced: Hundreds of rides; confident at all gaits, understands horse behavior, may teach others.

Regardless of your level, our guides will ensure you feel safe, relaxed, and connected to your horse.

Getting Here & Transfers

We offer hotel or villa pick-ups in the north of the island — just let us know your location and we’ll make sure you arrive and return safely. For cruise ship tours, pick-up and drop-off from Castries port is included.

Weather & Riding Conditions

Riding in the tropics means weather can be unpredictable. We ride in light rain, but if conditions are unsafe, we will reschedule your adventure. For those who prefer dry weather, check the forecast before booking.

Swimming with Your Horse

Some of our trails lead to stunning beaches where you can wade or swim with your horse — weather and sea conditions permitting. Swimming won't be possible on days when the waves are too rough, but the ride itself is still unforgettable.

No Experience? No Problem!

For private beach rides, sunrise rides, and picnic rides, you don’t need any prior experience. Our guides will teach you everything — from mounting to walking, turning, and stopping — so you can focus on enjoying the moment.

For advanced rides, we recommend experienced riders confident at all gaits.

What to Wear

Comfort is key! Wear clothes that allow free movement and protect you from the sun. Closed-toe shoes are required. Planning photos? Let us know so we can pair you with the right horse for the perfect shot.

What to Bring

  • Camera or phone to capture memories

  • Sunscreen for top-ups

  • Towel or change of clothes if you plan to swim

We provide bottled water and secure lockers, so you can relax and enjoy your ride fully.
